Kenwyne Jones celebrated his new contract with the only goal in Sunderland's 1-0 win over Fulham.
Jones, who signed a four-year deal with the Black Cats earlier in the day, blasted a rocket shot past Schwarzer just before the hour mark at the Stadium of Light.
Schwarzer, who had blocked Djibril Cisse's initial shot, could only watch as the 24-year-old blasted home from the edge of the six-yard box after picking up on the rebound.
Try as they might the visitors found nothing in response, with Andy Johnson and Bobby Zamora posing little to no threat to the Black Cats' back four.
The win was Sunderland's fourth at home this term and moves them level on points with Fulham who are still in search of their first away win.
