Redknapp set to miss out

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has admitted that any deal to sign Craig Bellamy and Wilson Palacios could be scuppered by Manchester City.

Redknapp has had bids for the West Ham striker and Wigan midfielder rejected during the January transfer window already.

The former Portsmouth boss is keen to add to the signing of Jermain Defoe this month as he looks to guide Spurs away from the relegation zone.

Redknapp's need to bring in new faces at White Hart Lane was highlighted during his side's 1-1 draw with Portsmouth on Sunday.

Captain Ledley King and striker Roman Pavlyuchenko were substituted in the first half with injuries, while goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes defender Vedran Corluka and winger Aaron Lennon all played on with knocks.

But the 61-year-old manager admitted that any future deal for his two transfer targets is unlikely with City now showing an interest.

"Man City are in and when they are the others have no chance," he said.

"They just outbid and out pay. It will be difficult. I like Palacios. I think he is a tremendous player. The chairman is talking to Wigan.

"I read that Tottenham fans don't want Craig Bellamy, he is a terrific player and just what Tottenham need but I don't think it will happen."
