Stoke chief Tony Pulis blamed his side's first-half performance for the defeat at Tottenham.
Tottenham raced into a three-goal lead in the opening period thanks to goals from Aaron Lennon, Jermain Defoe and Michael Dawson.
Stoke improved in the second half with James Beattie reducing the arrears with his first goal for the club.
Pulis conceded his side were not at the races in the opening period describing it as their worst showing of the campaign.
"We were awful for the first 25 minutes. It's as poor as we've performed. We never got close to them and it was over after that," noted Pulis.
"They showed a bit more in the second half. It would have been good for Richard Cresswell to head his chance in five minutes from time - and they might have been twitching.
"We have 15 games to go and it's a 15-game season for us."
Pulis conceded his side failed to control Tottenham's Luka Modric who ran the show for Spurs.
"Modric ran the game. We're usually competitive in a good way but we didn't have that edge," concluded Pulis.
