Stoke boss Tony Pulis admits he is still working hard to bring fresh faces into the club.
The Potters are one of a number of teams that currently find themselves in the tightest relegation battle since the inauguration of the Premier League back in 1992.
With so much at stake, successful dealings during the January transfer window could prove to be the difference between safety and relegation.
Pulis is experienced enough to know that he needs to bolster his squad ahead of a gruelling run-in and continues to do all he can to ensure that those reinforcements are forthcoming.
"We are desperately trying to bring a few in and we will keep going up until the window closes," he told Sky Sports News.
"Hopefully, fingers crossed, one or two things will fall for us."
While Pulis is keen to remain in the market, he admits that the nature of modern football makes his life more difficult than is necessary.
He believes that it is now virtually impossible to conduct business in private and believes the influx of agents into the game has made it increasingly difficult to push deals through at pace.
"There are so many people today that get involved in transfers," he said.
"Years ago it used to be manager to manager and no-one else. But you get agents involved now and so many other people on the fringes that it makes it ever so difficult to deal with anybody."
