Hull City claim to have been priced out of a move for Roma's John Arne Riise.
The Tigers made a move for the former Liverpool star, who had earlier this month been the subject of a failed approach from Newcastle.
Tigers boss Phil Brown revealed the approach, but confirmed that they had been priced out of a move.
"We came away from the enquiries with a 'too expensive for us' tag," he told Radio Humberside.
Brown admitted his need for Riise has increased following injuries to the likes of Andy Dawson and Anthony Gardner.
"When we enquired about John Arne Riise we didn't know the extent Andy's [Dawson] long-term or Anthony Gardner's long-term injury was going to be."
