A quartet of Premier League clubs are planning to hijack Middlesbrough's move for Crystal Palace's Ben Watson.

Middlesbrough finally agreed a fee with Palace for Watson on Wednesday after weeks of talks between the two clubs.

Palace are resigned to losing Watson with the player's current deal set to expire in the summer and the midfielder rejecting all overtures to sign a new contract.

News of Boro's bid being accepted has triggered interest from West Ham, Fulham, Blackburn and Wigan.

The four clubs are all thought to have made offers for Watson as they look to win the race for the highly-rated 23-year-old.

Watson is expected to listen to what is available from the five clubs before deciding where he will go.
