Marlon King is undergoing a medical at Middlesbrough.
As revealed by skysports.com earlier this week Middlesbrough have lined up a loan move for Wigan striker King in a possible swap deal with Mido.
King has been on loan at Hull City this season, but it appears they have cut short his loan stay following a bust-up with Tigers boss Phil Brown.
The news has alerted Middlesbrough who are now hoping to bring King to the Riverside on loan until the end of the season.
A swap deal involving Egyptian striker Mido going the other way has been mooted, but the King deal is not thought to be dependent on Mido making the switch to the JJB Stadium.
Middlesbrough have been given permission to hold talks with King and the Jamaica international is understood to be undergoing a medical on Teesside.
