Laursen out for two months

Aston Villa captain Martin Laursen has been ruled out of action for two months after undergoing a knee operation.

Laursen missed the club's last Premier League outing against Sunderland, and Villa have confirmed that the defender underwent surgery on a troublesome knee injury.

A Villa statement read: "Martin Laursen has been ruled out for eight weeks after undergoing a knee operation."

The former AC Milan defender is now likely to miss Villa's key clashes with Chelsea and Liverpool over the coming weeks, which will serve as a considerable blow to their high ambitions in the Premier League this season.

Worryingly, Laursen has suffered half-a-dozen similar injuries since heading to the West Midlands in 2004, but Villa are adamant that this latest setback has occurred in the 31-year-old's right knee and not the left that had previously caused the Dane to consider quitting the game.
