Givet glad to leave France

Gael Givet is hoping to impress during his loan spell at Blackburn and earn a permanent switch to England.

The defender has been allowed to join Rovers after falling out of favour at French giants Marseille.

He admits his lack of action in his homeland made him all the more determined to secure a move away from the club during the January transfer window.

He got his wish when Sam Allardyce came calling and he is now looking to make the most of the opportunity which has come his way.

"I have settled well into the Blackburn fold," Givet told L'Equipe.

"My only worry is that I will need time to adapt before playing games.

"But Blackburn is the place I wanted to come. I had already played for Monaco and Marseille so I didn't want to stay in France, except maybe Lyon.

"When the opportunity arrived I didn't hesitate in saying yes to Blackburn.

"Leaving Marseille is a relief because I wasn't playing. I still don't understand what happened. I never got a chance.

"I could be bitter against those people that didn't explain things to me, but that is not the case. I just have mixed feelings about Marseille. Considering what happened, I don't think about Marseille anymore.

"I have been loaned to Blackburn with the option for them to buy me. I still have two years left on my contract at Marseille, though, so you never know what could happen."

Meanwhile, reports in France suggest Blackburn have decided against offering a permanent deal to trialist Jean Calve.

The Nancy full-track had been hoping to impress Rovers' coaching staff during his short time at Ewood Park, but has failed to catch the eye.

However, Lorient and Stoke are both believed to still be keen on securing the 24-year-old's services.
