Big Sam backs Santa to shine

Sam Allardyce has tipped Roque Santa Cruz to bounce back from his failed move to Manchester City.

The Blackburn boss has admitted his Paraguay striker was "disappointed" to not secure a move away from Ewood Park after City refused to meet with Rovers' £20million asking price.

Santa Cruz now looks likely to be staying put and is expected to make his first start under new boss Allardyce against Sunderland in the FA Cup.

"I'm pleased with his attitude," the Rovers boss told the Daily Mirror.

"Roque's disappointed because he's said he wants to go - but there has been no movement from Manchester City.

"Getting on the goal tally again will be great for him. He can have a big impact in getting us through to the next round."
