Miller out for the season

West Brom have suffered a hammer blow in their bid to retain their Premier League status after learning striker Ishmael Miller will be out for the rest of the season.

It had originally been thought the former Manchester City hit-man would only miss the next six weeks after damaging medial ligaments in his knee against Portsmouth at the weekend.

The pacey striker collided with Pompey keeper David James while attempting to chase down a long-ball, although The Baggies did not initially suspected it would be a long-term blow.

Scans on Monday confirmed manager Tony Mowbray's worst fears that Miller would indeed miss the remainder of the campaign after the results showed the 21-year-old had damaged his cruciate ligament.

West Brom, who are currently bottom of the Premier League table four points behind fourth-from-bottom Newcastle, are already the league's lowest scorers with 12 goals from their 16 league outings.

Promising striker Miller had scored three times in the top-flight for Mowbray's charges this term, including netting in their recent 2-1 defeat to Wigan at The JJB.
