Fergie shocked by Evra ban

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has stated his shock at the punishment handed down to Patrice Evra by the Football Association.

The full-back has been banned for four matches and slapped with a £15,000 fine for his part in a fracas with a Chelsea groundsman, when the two sides met at Stamford Bridge last April.

The FA stated that they found Evra guilty of improper conduct and the ban, which starts from Monday 22nd December, means the French international will not then be available until Chelsea's visit to Old Trafford on 11th January.

Ferguson is shocked by the outcome and as of yet the United boss is unsure whether the club will be appealing the decision.

He said: "It was a shock. Of all the things the FA have done to us down the years that was one of their biggest. I could not believe it.

"You could never tell what these people are doing. Even if I was sitting having breakfast with them I would not know what they were thinking.

"But we are still waiting for the written reasons to be delivered to David Gill so we cannot really comment on what our next step will be."

The 27-year-old remains a doubt for United's UEFA Champions League match with Aalborg after missing training on Tuesday.
