Newcastle United are leading the race for Reading striker Leroy Lita.
The Magpies, still uncertain over the futures of Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins, have targeted the £4million-rated striker.
But they face a battle with Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and Sunderland for the England U-21 star who is keen to stay in the Premier League.
