Sidibe future being discussed

A crunch meeting is being held on Tuesday to decide whether Stoke striker Mamady Sidibe should play again this season.

There are two courses of action open to the Mali international after he suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury last week while warming up prior to the reserve fixture against Aston Villa.

He could either rest and recuperate in the hope of a return to help the Potters' survival campaign, or go immediately under the surgeon's knife.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis was due to meet the player and his agent on Tuesday to discuss the best course of action.

Pulis told the Stoke Sentinel: "The options are split between rest and recuperation on the one hand, in the hope the injury will settle down, or immediate surgery to repair the ligament.

"The first course of action might mean he comes back in time for the last three or four games of the season, while the second obviously means a long period of recovery.

"We'll have a good discussion today to decide the best course of action but the bottom line is we do what is best for Mama.

"I think every fan knows what a lovely fella he is and he'd die for the cause but it will be a decision ruled by the head and not the heart."

Sidibe was out of action for two months earlier in the season with an injury to the same knee.
