Shawcross growing in belief

Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross believes he is beginning to come to terms with life in the Premier League.

Shawcross endured a difficult top-flight debut for the Potters when they were beaten 3-1 by Bolton Wanderers back in August.

However, on Wednesday night, Shawcross and Stoke proved they are much-improved after claiming a 2-0 home triumph against Bolton.

Shawcross, who began his professional career at Manchester United, said: "It was a bit of a surprise when I first came into the Premier League.

"In that first game Bolton battered me and I got a few bruises. But I felt I came back quite strongly.

"With Amdy Faye alongside me, who is probably the strongest man in the world, it was pretty easy last night.

"It is just good to come back and show people I can battle and I can fight. Also, a win like this is good for the team and the players' confidence."
