Hart wants to repay board

Portsmouth temporary manager Paul Hart is determined to repay the board's faith in him by keeping the club in the Premier League.

Pompey announced on Tuesday that Hart and his assistant Brian Kidd would be staying on until the end of the season.

The 55-year-old took over when ex-boss Tony Adams was sacked at the start of February after just 22 games at the helm.

The former Nottingham Forest boss has had a decent start since he took over first team affairs with a 2-0 win over Manchester City coming before a draw at Stoke and more recently a narrow defeat to Chelsea on Tuesday.

But despite the run of one defeat in three games the South Coast club still sit one place and one point above the relegation places.

"I'm delighted. I took this job for one game just to help out but to keep it for the rest of the season is an honour," he said.

"There's been a lot of trust put in me to keep Pompey in the Premier League and I want to repay that trust.

"It's good for the club and the players that a decision has been made. I feel very fortunate to be the recipient of that decision.

"We can plan a bit further on now and hopefully do what we're here to do, which is keep the club in the Premier League."

Adams' brief tenure at the club was disrupted by constant transfer speculation surrounding his players but Hart confesses that he has had no complaints with the attitude of his squad.

"They've given everything for me in the last three games and done everything we've asked of them," he added.

"Brian and I are very, very pleased. We've got a great bunch of players but we know that we still have a tough job.

"We're enjoying what we're doing and the response from the players has been terrific from minute one."
