Chelsea 2 - 1 Wigan

Chelsea moved into second place in the Premier League due to a last-gasp goal from Frank Lampard.

John Terry gave Chelsea the lead against the run of play when he volleyed home a left-foot strike on 25 minutes and the home side began to dominate from thereon.

But Oliver Kapo levelled the match late in the second-half when he turned in a cross from Maynor Figueroa.

Lampard headed over Chris Kirkland in the dying minutes to score the winner amidst claims from the away side that Mario Melchiot was pushed by the England midfielder.

The contest began with a flurry of niggling challenges but referee Lee Probert refused to issue a yellow card until Chelsea defender Alex lunged at Paul Scharner in the ninth minute.

The fouls continued to interrupt the football and Probert found himself having quiet words with Michael Ballack and Wigan's Michael Brown after the pair clashed off the ball.

Chelsea had goalkeeper Petr Cech to thank for keeping them on level terms in the 17th minute.
