Sam Allardyce was happy with Blackburn's effort and endeavour against Everton on Wednesday, but wished they would have taken one of their chances.
The likes of Jason Roberts, Stephen Warnock and Aaron Mokoena all came close to securing a priceless three-point haul for Rovers at Ewood Park.
However, the all-Lancashire clash finished goalless, meaning Stoke's 2-0 win over Bolton moves Rovers back into the bottom three in the league table.
"The effort was great. The commitment, I can't fault it," he told Sky Sports. "Unfortunately we just needed a quality finish in the second half with the chances we got.
"You're not going to get many against Everton, who are very, very good home and away now. They came in the second half for us and we didn't convert one.
"That's probably why we ended up with the nil-nil. I think that from our point of view it was too many chances missed tonight.
"I thought we built momentum well today. You can't go gung-ho against Everton right from the start. We changed the system as the night went on and that helped.
"We lost a few players through injury, but that didn't detract from our performance. So we changed it around and kept the momentum going.
"I thought our fitness was really good. We went right till the very, very end to try and win it. But chances have got to be taken unfortunately when you play at this level."
