Van Persie demands success

Arsenal star Robin van Persie admits the club need to win some silverware this season to silence their critics.

The Gunners have not won any silverware since the 2005 FA Cup and the pressure is on to end the trophy drought.

Arsenal are well off the pace in the Premier League title race with the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League representing their best chance of success.

Van Persie has called on his team-mates to prove their worth by picking up some silverware this term for frustrated Gunners fans.

"I am like them, [the fans] I feel the same. I want it as badly as them and it can be frustrating when it does not happen," Van Persie told the Sunday Mirror.

"I think positively, though and the fans should do that as well. The club has gone too long without winning anything and we are doing everything we can to change it.

"When I joined, the team were winning things for fun and in my first year here we won the FA Cup and that was really special for me.

"If we could achieve it this year it would be an even bigger achievement considering how unlucky we have been with injuries."
