Ricky Sbragia is keen to keep Djibril Cisse at Sunderland but is not sure what the Frenchman wants.
Cisse moved to the Stadium of Light on a season-long loan last summer and he has impressed Sbragia with his performances.
The striker's nine Premier League goals have helped propel the Black Cats to a position of mid-table security but there has been speculation about his future.
Sunderland will have first refusal on Cisse should Marseille decide to sell but a number of other clubs, including Blackburn, are reportedly interested.
Sbragia hopes Cisse will stay with Sunderland on a permanent deal but he has doubts over whether the 27-year-old will agree to a deal.
"I would like him to stay beyond his loan which expires at the end of May," Sbragia said in the Sunday Mirror.
"But Djibril might not want to stay."
