Sam Allardyce believes Blackburn have to be more ruthless if they want to avoid the drop.
The Rovers boss voiced his disappointment following Saturday's 0-0 stalemate at Middlesbrough and he said it is important to turn chances into wins.
Allardyce said: "We should have buried it today. We completely dominated the game for most of it and we had the better chances.
"I know the keeper has pulled off some good saves today but we haven't got that ruthless streak and that is now costing us wins. That is very dangerous in the position we are in.
"I think we have thrown two points away again today. We have done it at Sunderland away, we have done it at home twice and we are going to pay the price for it if we don't turn good performances into positive wins and three points on the board."
With Stoke defeating Manchester City in Saturday's early kick-off, Blackburn drop in the relegation zone and Allardyce says it is frustrating to be languishing so far down the table having not tasted defeat in the six matches since taking over from Paul Ince.
"Having not been beaten in six, it's a bitter blow really because we should be a good way away from the bottom three and today's performance just sums us up," he said.
"Best team, better chances but we haven't finished the opposition off. We are not ruthless enough at the moment and it's a great shame with the effort and the performances the players are putting in."
The Blackburn boss will be left to rue Jason Roberts' injury-time miss, but he says he will also look back on several other chances his team created in the second half.
Allardyce added: "I thought Dunn had sneaked a couple in before that as well and then we had the best chance of the game right at the very end with Jason Roberts' header but I have to say it was a terrific save.
"Unfortunately, instead of going in 1-0 and with a very precious three points it is 0-0 and we are very disappointed with how it happened.
"We have been away from home several times now and we have only scored one free-kick in the FA Cup and we have had so many chances to score goals and haven't scored any.
"We have got the other side right - the defence side today was absolutely superb. Paul Robinson has not had, in 95 minutes, one shot to save from a Middlesbrough player at all. That's how good we were defensively today.
"And then with the creative side, particularly with Dunn getting fit again we started opening up the opposition time after time but unfortunately away from home we are not ruthless enough to put it in the back of the net and get us three points."
There may also be injury worries for Allardyce to deal with over the coming weeks, with Keith Andrews and Brett Emerton both picking up fresh knocks at the Riverside.
"Keith Andrews we think will be okay as long as there is no damage to the knee," Allardyce said.
"It is a bad kick which came from Ryan Nelsen believe it or not and it's a big gash on the knee but we hope that is all it is.
"That shouldn't take too long. The bigger worry is Brett Emerton's knee. He felt it twist and had to come off, but we don't know how serious that injury is until tomorrow."
With just two days left until the transfer deadline, Allardyce added that he does not expect to make any big moves before the January window closes.
He reiterated his desire to keep Roque Santa Cruz at Ewood Park and said any players coming into the squad would likely be on a loan basis rather than in a permanent move.
