Palacios focused on career

New Tottenham midfielder Wilson Palacios is keen to focus on his career at White Hart Lane in order to distract from ongoing off-field trauma in his family life.

The Honduras international's younger brother Edwin Rene was abducted from his family home and a £125,000 ransom was paid more than a year ago but there has been little information since that time.

And Palacios, who was on loan at Birmingham at the time of the abduction, is unaware whether his brother will even be aware that he has now moved to north London after a spell at Wigan.

However, the 24-year-old - who is set to make his Spurs debut away to Bolton on Saturday - is eager to remove attention from the saga by concentrating on his football.

"Everyone knows the situation I'm in and it is very difficult, but the way to get through is to carry on concentrating on playing football," Palacios told The Times.

"We are confident that it will come to a positive conclusion.

"It is something that is negative about our country. I speak to my mum every day and it is possible that he (Edwin Rene) thinks I am Birmingham.

"I don't know if he knows I am here (Tottenham). I hope he does. My mum has not had a chance to come over to watch me, but I hope that she can, to give her a break from it."
