Kinnear - Hardest time ever

Experienced manager Joe Kinnear has admitted his current spell at Newcastle United is the hardest time he has ever faced in the game.

As well as managing abroad the former Wimbledon, Luton Town and Nottingham Forest boss has spent over 40 years in the game after playing for Spurs in the mid 60s.

Kinnear has had it tough at Newcastle after succeeding Kevin Keegan with a lengthy injury list, a near empty kitty to bolster his squad and unhappy players to contend with.

The 62-year-old believes the club have not had the rub of the green of late, but thinks that with a bit of grit and determination the club have it within themselves to secure their top-flight status.

"It's probably the hardest time I have had since I have been in football," admitted Kinnear.

"Things haven't gone our way. Everything possible has conspired to go against us. It just goes from bad to worse, really.

"But you have to fight and deal head-on with the situation. I am not going to run away from the situation.

"The fact is that this is the position we are in and it is up to ourselves to do something about it, and it is up to those players who wear the shirts to do something about it."
