Hart wants swift appointment

Paul Hart believes Portsmouth need to move swiftly to appoint a new manager following Tony Adams' sacking on Monday.

Hart was elevated from his post as director of youth operations to take caretaker charge after Adams and coach John Metgod were shown the door.

And the former Nottingham Forest boss believes the Fratton Park hierarchy should not waste time with the club only a point above the Premier League drop zone.

Avram Grant and Sven Goran Eriksson have both been linked with the post as the South Coast club search for a suitable candidate.

Hart told Sky Sports News: "It's a very, very good football club and we're on the fringe of doing an awful lot, so as soon as possible would be great.

"It's not a very pleasant time for anybody, but it happens - far too often in my opinion - but it does happen and we've just to get on with things.

"This club brought me in when I was out of work so it's certainly not a problem for me to try and help out."

Hart took training for the first time on Tuesday and will be on the touchline for Saturday's Premier League meeting with Manchester City at Fratton Park.

He added: "Training went very well. I certainly enjoyed it and I think the players seemed to.

"They've been very supportive and gone about it in the right way, so I'm delighted at the moment.

"It's a big game and we certainly need a result, but the players know that as well."
