Gazidis sure of Wenger future

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis is confident that manager Arsene Wenger's long-term future remains at Emirates Stadium.

Wenger has enjoyed impressive success since taking over the Gunners in 1996, and his current contract is due to expire at the end of next season.

The French coach currently finds his side struggling to wrestle fourth place off Aston Villa in the Premier League, while rumours linking him with Spanish giants Real Madrid continue to linger.

But Gazidis, who took up his new post at Arsenal last month, has voiced his backing for Wenger, and is certain his commitment lies with the North London club.

"Arsene is entwined in the club, and feels a sense of responsibility," Gazidis told The Guardian.

"It is difficult to imagine (Arsenal) without him now. Arsene is looking to the long-term.

"I think he loves the club. There's (no) situation I can imagine that would lead to Arsene wanting to leave Arsenal.

"We have one of the best managers in the world, if not the best, who has redefined the club and has taken us to a point where everyone (outside of the club) is talking about fifth as a crisis.

"Arsene isn't happy to be fifth place, but we believe and he believes, more importantly, in the group of young players that he has. He believes that there is unfinished business."

Gazidis added in The Times: "This club is in a position to withstand a year without UEFA Champions League qualification, not that we are anticipating it."
