The Football Association has confirmed it has received a claim for wrongful dismissal from Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard.
The England international was sent off for a challenge on Liverpool's Xabi Alonso in the second half of Chelsea's 2-0 defeat at Anfield on Sunday.
The pair collided when Lampard slid in to take the ball ahead of the Spaniard causing the Liverpool man to kick the Chelsea player's studs.
Referee Mike Riley was stood just two yards away and immediately brandished the red card believing that the 30-year-old's studs were dangerously high.
It is not the first time that Lampard and Alonso have been involved in a coming together with Lampard breaking his Liverpool counterpart's ankle in 2005.
The former West Ham youngster is set to miss league games against Hull City and Aston Villa and the FA Cup fifth round clash with Watford.
The FA will review the decision on Tuesday.
