Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has vowed to keep the pressure on Manchester United and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.
The West London club lost 2-0 to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday to leave them five points behind champions and leaders Manchester United.
That gap could be stretched to eight points if United win their game in hand with just three months of the season remaining.
Despite the enormity of the task, the 26-year-old shot-stopper is determined not give up on the hope of securing what would be his third Premier League title.
"Eight points in football, especially in the Premier League, means everything can happen," he told the club's official website.
"You can see that from last year. Arsenal were eight points clear and ended up third, so we will keep playing, we will try to keep winning and we will put the pressure on the others.
"We are behind and we need to keep winning so if Man United or Liverpool drop points we can close the gap.
"This is the only way now for us to get back into it. We need to keep winning because we don't have the control in our hands."
Cech acknowledges that Chelsea's task is made even harder given the fact that United will be brimming with confidence after going 12 league games without conceding a goal.
The Czech Republic international knows the feeling after it was his record of going 1,025 minutes without conceding a league goal in season 2004/05 which United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar recently surpassed.
Those glory days under former boss Jose Mourinho seem an age away now but Cech knows his side cannot afford to slip-up at all from now until the end of the season.
"At the moment they have had a great run and they know they are solid, they haven't conceded any goals and this is a massive boost for the team," he added.
"When you don't concede a goal, you know one goal is enough to win the game and to get three points and it makes a big difference. It is great for confidence.
"We need to win every game."
