Colombia striker Hugo Rodallega is undergoing a medical with Wigan as his £4.5million switch edges ever closer.
The 23-year-old was confirmed as a target of Steve Bruce early in the transfer window as he looks to bolster his striking options.
A fee was agreed with Rodallega's Mexican club Necaxa before the club secured a work permit to allow him to play in the Premier League 10 days ago.
Provided there are no unexpected problems with the medical, Rodallega is expected to finalise his transfer to the JJB Stadium by the weekend.
Wigan's next match is against Liverpool at the JJB Stadium, but it remains to be seen whether the South American will be involved.
It is expected that Bruce will introduce the forward gradually into his plans to assess his fitness and enable Rodallega to find his feet in England.
