United suffer twin injury blow

Manchester United duo Jonny Evans and Anderson have been ruled out for the next three weeks due to injury.

Evans and Anderson both suffered ankle injuries during United's 4-2 win over Derby County in the second leg of the Carling Cup semi-final on Tuesday night.

Anderson was stretchered from the pitch at the final whistle and there were fears that the Brazilian midfielder had suffered a serious injury.

However, following scans on the problem, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Anderson is out for the next three weeks.

"We sent Anderson for a scan and there's no break," said Ferguson. "But there was some ligament damage. We think he'll be out for three weeks."

Portuguese winger Nani also picked up a knock against Derby and is out for a week, while Evans faces a similar absence to Anderson.

Ferguson added: "Nani suffered a groin injury and he'll be out for a week. Jonny Evans will be out for three weeks."

The injuries leave Ferguson with a depleted squad for Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round tie against Tottenham Hotpsur, with several more first-team regulars on the sidelines.

He continued: "The ones who are out are Rio Ferdinand, Anderson, Nani, Rafael, Patrice Evra, Wayne Rooney, Jonny Evans and Ji-sung Park [hamstring injury]."
