Portsmouth executive chairman Peter Storrie is still hopeful of landing Real Madrid forward Javier Saviola.
Pompey have made no secret of their interest in the Argentine, who has struggled for regular first-team football at Santiago Bernabeu.
Recent reports have suggested Saviola could be used in a part-exchange deal for Wigan Athletic's Antonio Valencia, with Real boss Juande Ramos in the market for a winger.
Storrie remains hopeful of bringing the 27-year-old to Fratton Park, but the latest speculation claims Saviola is set to snub a move to Pompey.
"Obviously it's no secret we have been talking to the Madrid boy Saviola and that's one we have been seriously looking at," Storrie told The News:
"The problem is we need someone to come in that's going to play in the team straight away.
"He's not played any football since November and you are talking about the Premier League, you need people that are regularly playing games and at the fitness level.
"But that's an option we are still looking at."
