Peter Storrie is confident there will be a number of new faces at Portsmouth in the next couple of days.

Lassana Diarra and Jermain Defoe have left Fratton Park this month and manager Tony Adams is keen to strengthen.

Adams has asked Storrie to make five signings during the transfer window and the executive chairman has confirmed he is making good progress.

"We're close on a number of deals," Storrie told The News.

"We're confident things will be completed in the next couple of days, permanent and loan signings."

Valencia duo Manuel Fernandes and Edu have been linked with Pompey, while there has also been speculation regarding Real Madrid's Javier Saviola and Michael Johnson of Manchester City.

Adams has previously expressed an interest in Gary O'Neil and Portsmouth are expected to go back to Middlesbrough with a new offer.

Adams played down talk of a move for Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari on Monday and he added: "There's no truth in the Benjani rumours.

"Could he come? I don't know. Not today. I'm working on recruitment, that's going on now and was going on in November and December.

"I got the job in October and needed to get stuck in and work on it, I've only had a couple of months so far.

"I think it's very obvious the areas I'm looking for, maybe something in the coming days, we'll see.

"As for Gary O'Neil, there is nothing to report, I would say if there was."
