Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has confirmed that selling players is not on his agenda.
The Villa tactician has had both key players like Ashley Young and fringe players like Marlon Harewood linked with moves away from Villa Park, but O'Neill insists the January window is going to be dedicated to bringing in new faces, not offloading.
"I'm looking to try and strengthen the side, I would prefer some players coming in rather than going out," O'Neill told Sky Sports News.
"I'm not really looking to let people go unless some player came up and said he was absolutely desperate to go I would give it some sort of consideration."
O'Neill was also quizzed over the fitness of Gareth Barry with the England midfielder missing last Saturday's FA Cup win over Gillingham.
The Villa boss refuted claims over Barry's troublesome groin problem by confirming the 27-year-old fit for the derby with West Brom, which can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 and HD1.
O'Neill did admit surgery could be an option for Barry at a later date, he added: "I spend most of my time trying to put right the stories that might come out.
"Gareth missed the game (against Gillingham) and he missed it because he hurt himself in the Hull City match and it's been grumbling on for a little while but he wants to play the games.
"At the moment it's okay, we think it's okay but we'll just keep an eye on things.
"There might be a possibility that something is needed later on so it's just a case of monitoring it.
"The great thing about him is he wants to play, that is almost all the battle."
