Wigan have agreed a fee with Newcastle for Charles N'Zogbia, with Ryan Taylor set to move in the opposite direction.
N'Zogbia stated earlier this week that he would never play for Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear again after being disrespected by the Magpies tactician in Wednesday's post-match interview.
Kinnear responded by saying he had not received a single formal offer for the Frenchman, but it now appears Wigan have moved quickly in an effort to sign him before Monday's transfer deadline.
Latics manager Steve Bruce is keen to reinforce his squad after losing Wilson Palacios and Emile Heskey to Tottenham and Aston Villa respectively.
Fee agreed
It is believed a price of £6million has been agreed for N'Zogbia, while Taylor is poised to join the Magpies as part of the deal.
Taylor, another left-sided player, has been successful in games against Newcastle in recent years.
The 24-year-old's future has been the subject of speculation for some time, with his Wigan contract due to expire in the summer.
It is understood that Newcastle hope to push through a deal so that Taylor is available to make his debut in Sunday's clash with Sunderland.
