Everton boss David Moyes believed his side deserved their win after the Toffees beat Hull City 2-0 at Goodison Park.
The Scot admitted his side were lucky with their opener as Marouane Fellaini was offside when he headed home a Leighton Baines cross on 18 minutes.
Mikel Arteta then scored an unstoppable 25-yard free-kick on the stroke of half-time to give Everton clear breathing space.
After the break neither side created a chance of note as the Toffees claimed an easy win to keep up their push at the top of the table.
Moyes told Sky Sports: "I thought for long periods we controlled it. I thought we kept Hull at bay and limited them mainly to some crosses in the box so it was a good, solid performance and obviously getting a couple of goals as well.
"There was a period in the first-half where it became quite tight and Hull do what they do - they can put you under a bit of pressure at times - but I thought in the main, we had periods where we passed it well and looked to make opportunities so I think it was a deserved result."
Moyes did concede that Fellaini's goal should have been ruled out for offside.
He said: "They keep telling us - Keith Hackett - that we don't come out and say it when the referees get it right, or we only do it for our own team, well today I am saying that the officials got it wrong for Hull City."
Fellaini picked up his 10th yellow card in the game which means he misses the two upcoming Merseyside derbies.
Moyes thought the decision was harsh, although he believes the refereeing this season, and certainly in the last month or two, has been excellent.
"It is the FA's job to look at the performances of referees, we can only advise them in what to do and you would probably advise them today 'have a look at today's performance'," he said.
Moyes refused to look ahead to the forthcoming Mersey derby showdowns with Liverpool in the Premier League and FA Cup.
He added: "All the games are important but the most important one was always today, to win today's game.
"It keeps us up near the top end of the league, the players are playing well, they are playing with a lot of confidence, lots of good performances today so I am more than pleased.
"Its getting back to normal service here in not conceding goals and being hard to beat and when we do that we can make it awkward for teams as well.
"But today I thought it was more about us trying to score and in truth we scored two but maybe on another day we may have had more."
