Moyes hails makeshift strikers

Everton manager David Moyes has praised his stand-in goal scorers in the wake of his side's striker injury crisis.

Tim Cahill, Marouane Fellaini and Mikel Arteta have each chipped in with their fair share of goals in recent weeks, helping the Toffees rise to a creditable 6th in the Premier League.

With injuries to Aiyegbeni Yakubu, James Vaughan and Louis Saha, Moyes has been forced to deploy Cahill as a lone striker and admits that the injury list had him worried.

"We have had it now for four or five weeks and we could have gone under because we didn't have any forwards" admitted Moyes.

"But they haven't half mucked in and got around it well. Tim and Fellaini, everyone has played their part in trying to get results" he added.

Everton are unbeaten in seven matches in all competitions and their run of six successive clean sheets was only ended by Liverpool on Monday night.

Moyes was keen to highlight the important role his defence has played in their form, which has revitalised their bid for European qualification.

"The boys at the back have given us that opportunity by keeping clean sheets and defending very well and we have to base ourselves on that until we can get some of the forwards back" said the Scotsman.

"Now we have tightened up and look more like ourselves. I think the boys at the back have slipped into their form".
