Mowbray not blaming Carson

Tony Mowbray defended Scott Carson after his mistake helped Aston Villa to a 2-1 victory over West Brom.

The Baggies were already trailing 1-0 when the goalkeeper spilled a Gabriel Agbonlahor shot, which was heading wide, into his own net.

West Brom pulled a goal back in the second half but could not force an equaliser and remain bottom of the Premier League table.

However, Mowbray refused to blame a player who has been in fine form this season and who also produced a number of splendid saves in the second half.

Mowbray said: "He's disappointed, he doesn't need to say anything.

"He has done exceptionally well for us. That's football. He'll take it on the chin."

Mowbray believes West Brom should perhaps have been awarded a penalty in the dying seconds of the game.

Roman Bednar and Kim Do-heon both tumbled in the box and Mowbray feels a point apiece may have been a fairer result.

"I think it was a decent shout," said Mowbray. "I don't think there was any contact with the ball.

"It wasn't given but you have to get on with it. A draw would not have been an injustice."
