Martin O'Neill admits Martin Laursen's latest injury has the Aston Villa medical staff stumped.
The Danish centre-half has struggled with knee problems throughout his career, and is back on the sidelines at present.
Villa are desperate to get their influential skipper out on the pitch for a prolonged period of time, but have faced numerous setbacks of late.
Laursen was forced to sit out the weekend win at Sunderland as medics attempt to distinguish what is wrong with him, with the ongoing saga beginning to give O'Neill a headache he could well do without.
"He has already had some scans but, at the moment, the results seem to be a little unclear," said the Villa boss.
"We are going to try and manage it.
"We will try and get him pain-free for the games and see if he is comfortable with that.
"We will take it on from there. Obviously we miss him because he has been such a big player for us."
