Harry - Bent blast wasn't personal

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has attempted to put Darren Bent at ease by stating his criticism of the striker last weekend was not personal.

Redknapp hit out at the former Charlton man after he missed a gilt-edged chance to give Spurs all three points against Portsmouth after heading David Bentley's cross wide.

The former Pompey boss could not believes Bent spurned the late chance to give the side a priceless three-point haul against a fellow struggler and made his feelings known after the game by stating his wife would have hit the back of the net.

Bent was reportedly upset by the comment, but Redknapp insists the jibe was not personal and he would have been disappointed with whoever missed the sitter.

"Darren might have been upset by what I said but I honestly didn't mean to," explained Redknapp in The Sun.

"It wasn't like it was Darren Bent I was trying to knock, I swear ... if it had been Jermain Defoe I'd have said the same thing. It was my reaction to the miss.

"Someone said, 'Do you think you should have won the game' and I said 'Yes, I think my missus would have scored it'."
