Salif Diao has given Stoke an injury scare after returning from the club's training camp in the United Arab Emirates with a calf problem.
The former Liverpool man has missed Stoke's last six Premier League games with a similar injury and he was hoping to prove his fitness at their training camp.
However, the Senegal international has been forced to return to England to undergo scans.
He joins Danny Higginbotham on the sidelines after the defender was forced to have tests on a calf problem of his own.
Better news on the injury front for Stoke boss Tony Pulis is the return to light training of long-term absentees Mamady Sidibe and Leon Cort.
