Davies remains upbeat

Kevin Davies believes Bolton are capable of bouncing back from their current slump.

The Trotters have suffered four straight defeats in the Premier League, and have won only one of their last seven top-flight games.

That run has prevented the club from pulling clear of a relegation dogfight which looks set to go right down to the wire.

Gary Megson's men have faced some tough games of late, though, with all of the top five faced at some point over the last six weeks.

With that in mind, Davies is hoping a spell of less glamorous fixtures will help to bring about a change in fortunes.

"It has been a difficult fortnight for us, playing against the top sides but I think we should have had a couple of points out of it," the stiker said in the wake of heartbreaking late defeats to Arsenal and Manchester United in their last two outings.

"We have got a small squad and it has been the same players week in, week out, so this break will give us a chance to recharge and get a few bodies back.

"It's important we come back fighting for the last 16 games of the season."

Having fallen at the first hurdle in the FA Cup, Bolton will not be in action again until facing Blackburn on 28th January.

Defender Andy O'Brien believes the enforced break could prove detrimental as the club look to battle their way out of trouble.

"The good thing about last year (when the club spent a long time in the bottom three) was we were playing regularly," he told the club's official website.

"This season it is every seven days and because we are out of the FA Cup it is a long break until we play Blackburn.

"From the players' perspective we have to work hard in this period because you don't want to lose any fitness."
