Cudicini ready for Spurs test

Tottenham goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini is hoping to help his new club climb the Premier League table and is looking forward to competing with Heurelho Gomes.

The former Chelsea shot-stopper moved to White Hart Lane on a free transfer on Monday as Spurs boss Harry Redknapp bids to reinforce his struggling squad.

Tottenham currently occupy 16th position in the table and Cudicini is keen to add experience in the battle against relegation ahead of Tuesday's visit of Stoke.

The Italian has also set his sights on challenging the position of Gomes, who has come in for criticism in his debut season in England, in Spurs' first XI.

"I met Heurelho Gomes and Ben (Alnwick) so it will be fantastic to work with them and we'll try to push each other," Cudicini said. "I think it will be a fair competition and that is good for the team.

"At this moment the team is not in the best position but it doesn't matter - I'm here to bring some experience and try to push this club forward.

"No-one expected Tottenham to be in this situation. I think the team has the quality and the character to come out of this situation.

"It's five months until the end of the season and we have to fight in every game to get out of this situation as soon as possible. I hope I bring some points.

"I'm really happy with this choice. This was the time to find a new challenge and push for other success - and for the club as well."
