Wigan Athletic midfielder Lee Cattermole has stressed that it is vital the club retain the services of Tottenham Hotspur target Wilson Palacios.
The Latics have turned down a £10million bid from Spurs for Palacios, while press reports have suggested Manchester United are also interested.
The Honduran has emerged as a key player for Wigan in the last year and Cattermole admits his departure would be a big blow.
"I definitely hope Wilson stays. We want to keep hold of our best players and finish as high up the league as we can," Cattermole told the Wigan Evening Post.
"If we start letting people like him go, we are going to suffer unless we go and replace them straight away.
"It's in our interest to keep him. Wilson is a very good player - in fact, we have a team full of very good players.
"If everyone stays and we keep working hard, this team will finish well up there in the table, I'm certain of that."
