Bullard boost for Brown

Hull City manager Phil Brown was pleased with the debut performance of record signing Jimmy Bullard in the defeat at West Ham.

Bullard, signed for £5million from Fulham, came on as a second-half substitute but was unable to prevent his new side slipping to a 2-0 loss at Upton Park.

The midfielder was not fit to start the game after suffering from a virus but was introduced in the 53rd minute with the Tigers trailing 2-0.

And Brown saw enough signs from the 30-year-old to think he can help prevent City from being dragged into a relegation fight.

"In the second half when we brought on Jimmy Bullard it made a big difference to us," the City manager told Sky Sports.

"People trust him with the ball and it got us playing a little bit better. I've seen enough signs from the second half that the players do trust Jimmy and that we might be able to get out of this form we are in."

The Tigers have now lost six successive Premier League games and are beginning to slide down the table.

Brown admits his side are low on confidence but is looking for his players to bounce back on Saturday when bottom club West Bromwich Albion visit the KC Stadium.

"The lads are suffering confidence-wise with results that have gone of late; you have seen two teams tonight - one playing with confidence and the other suffering.

"We have to keep believing we can win games of football at this level. We are going into a six pointer on Saturday - it's a massive game for West Brom and ourselves.

"To put a bit of daylight between us and the bottom three would be a nice breather at this stage of the season."
