Barry reiterates Villa desire

Gareth Barry has reiterated his desire to stay with Aston Villa for the remainder of the Premier League season.

The Villa ace had looked like securing a move to Liverpool last summer, but The Reds failed to match the club's lofty valuation of the player.

Barry stayed and after receiving mixed reception from fans soon regained his best form and even secured the captain's armband while Martin Laursen was on the sidelines.

The 27-year-old has also confirmed Aston Villa are yet to hold talks with him over a lucrative contract extension.

"My feelings are still the same," said Barry, who has 18 months remaining on his existing contract.

"I want to be here this season, see it through, and just want to end all speculation on my behalf.

"Nothing is being talked about regarding a new contract at the moment."

Meanwhile, Barry admits he may eventually need an operation on his niggling groin injury, but for now is taking it a game at a time.

"It is a bit of a niggle and we felt it would be best to leave me out of the Gillingham game," he continued.

"We had scans to see if it was an hernia problem - and whether I would need an operation - but they were all clear.

"The groin felt a lot easier against West Brom and we will judge it game by game.

"I felt it very strongly against Hull but it has been there all season really. We will judge it day by day and game by game. No operation is imminent."
