Blackburn chairman John Williams is confident the 'experience' of new manager Sam Allardyce can save the club from relegation.
Allardyce was officially unveiled as the successor to Paul Ince at Ewood Park on Thursday at a press conference broadcast live on Sky Sports News.
The former Bolton and Newcastle boss' priority is to steer Rovers, who sit second from bottom in the Premier League, away from relegation danger.
And Williams, who only appointed Ince in the summer before sacking the former MK Dons chief on Tuesday, believes Allardyce is the man to guide Blackburn to safety.
"Experience. He has been there, done it, worked at a similar-sized club on a similar-sized budget, has a knowledge of our club," said the chairman.
"He felt the time was right, the hunger was there.
"I think he fancies it. I think he thinks there is a degree of under-performance and feels it is a good club.
"We are in a difficult predicament, let's make no bones about it, but we can't keep going down the gloom and doom road.
"We have to look positive and believe we can get out of this.
"It is a great opportunity for Sam and let's hope it is a marriage made in heaven."
