Wenger - Villa won't win title

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger doubts whether Aston Villa can win the Premier League title this season.

Villa have made a stunning start to the campaign and are currently above both Arsenal and reigning champions Manchester United.

They are just five points adrift of leaders Liverpool but Martin O'Neill has played down his side's chances of even qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, let alone finishing top.

And Wenger agrees that Villa are not quite strong enough to sustain their challenge right to the end of the season.

Wenger has been impressed by Villa but he feels their smaller squad will make it difficult for them to compete with the likes of United over the next few months.

"I don't think Villa can win the title," said Wenger.

"Mathematically they are in there, but I would say 'No' because there are other teams who look to me better equipped.

"I can be wrong, but that's my honest opinion.

"Some teams have bigger squads with more potential creativity and in the longer term that has an input.

"Look at the offensive potential at Man United - they have Dinitar Berbatov, Carlos Tevez, Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Ryan Giggs and Anderson.

"When you go into March and April and you have two or three players out, they still have players to come in at the top level."
