Blackburn are hopeful of having Paul Ince's successor in place in time for Saturday's game against Stoke.
Rovers parted company with Ince on Tuesday, having seen the club slip into the Premier League relegation zone on the back of an 11-game winless run.
A 3-0 hammering at Wigan on Saturday proved to be the final straw for the former England international, with his reign in the Ewood Park hot-seat having lasted only six months.
Numerous names have already been linked with the vacant position, with Sam Allardyce and Graeme Souness believed to be leading contenders.
With both of those men currently without a club they would be able to fill the void immediately.
Therefore, Rovers chairman Jon Williams is likely to have the duo in mind after boldly claiming that a new man will hopefully have been appointed in time for the resumption of top-flight action this weekend.
"Appointing a new manager is our total focus," he told the club's official website.
"We acknowledge that timescales are tight for we are in a very worrying situation concerning our Premier League status.
"We will endeavour to have a new manager in place for Saturday's game with Stoke City at Ewood Park, but there are no guarantees and we must ensure we get the right man.
"In the meantime, the day-to-day training will be carried out by Archie Knox, Ray Mathias and Karl Robinson. Our coaching staff and all of the players fully understand the importance of this weekend's game.
"Our supporters can rest assured that we will do everything in our power to get the team climbing the Premier League table as soon as possible."
