Owen confirms no offer made

Newcastle United striker Michael Owen has confirmed that he has not been offered a new contract by the club.

Owen's current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and Toon manager Joe Kinnear is adamant that the club should do everything possible to keep the striker in the January transfer window.

The 29-year-old scored his seventh Premier League goal of the season in Newcastle's 3-0 win over Portsmouth on Sunday, sending the club up to 14th position in the table.

Owen is currently captain of the Magpies but other clubs will be monitoring the situation, with some looking to snap up the former Liverpool man for a knock-down price in the window.

"I mean obviously there's a lot made of it," admitted Owen to Sky Sports News.

"There is quite a few players that are running out of their contract. What do you want me to say? None of us have been offered contracts yet.

"So there's no bad guys here I have not refused anything yet.

"I'm waiting to speak to the club, so as soon as they speak to me there will be more news for you."
