Frank Lampard feels Chelsea need to develop a Plan B when playing against defensive opponents.
Last weekend's Premier League defeat by Arsenal at Stamford Bridge saw Chelsea surrender top spot in the table and critics have begun to question the Blues.
Luiz Felipe Scolari's side crashed out of the Carling Cup to Burnley in November, while the Brazilian has also seen his men miss two opportunities to progress from the UEFA Champions League group stages following an away defeat by Roma and a draw in Bordeaux.
And ahead of a Saturday's domestic trip to Bolton and Tuesday's must-win European clash with CFR Cluj, midfielder Lampard believes he and his team-mates may be required to 'mix things up' in the pursuit of silverware.
"We might have to try and adapt to playing against defensive sides because people will see that other teams have got results doing that," said Lampard, who misses the meeting with Cluj through suspension.
"I think it is important to mix things up if you are trying to play through a team and it is not quite working.
"There are times when you have to try different things - sometimes you can play a bit more of a direct style, sometimes you can try and get the ball wide so the team can put more balls in the box."
