Keane plans to return

Roy Keane has no intention of allowing his first job in football management to be his last.

The former Manchester United midfielder walked out on Sunderland last week after just over two years at the helm.

During that time he guided the Black Cats to the Championship title and helped them survive during their first season back in the Premier League.

But he decided to call time on his career at the Stadium of Light with the club in the relegation zone in the wake of a 4-1 home drubbing by Bolton.

The Wearside outfit have received over 30 applications for the post, although Peter Reid and Steve McClaren have ruled themselves out of contention.

Keane, in a statement released via the League Managers' Association, insisted he was hoping to return to the game at some point in the future.

He said: "I have experienced and learnt a tremendous amount in the last 27 months and enjoyed the rigours of being a manager.

"I look forward to building on those experiences and, sometime in the future, returning to football management."
